A mine of ideas – Municipal Waste Management – What Is Worth to Know?

An educational workshop entitled “A mine of ideas – Municipal waste management – what is worth to know?” will present the most important assumptions of municipal waste management and will also provide solutions to the problem of the growing amount of waste. The participants will get acquainted with the basic concepts from the above-mentioned topics and will learn about the methods that they can use in their everyday life and household.

The main aim of the lesson is to introduce students to the problem of municipal waste management. The workshop is divided into two parts. During the first one it will be presented the general problem of waste, waste management and waste management hierarchy. The lesson deals with waste prevention, waste reuse, recycling, energy recovery, waste disposal and finally waste segregation. A multimedia presentation is used during the lesson (as teacher’s material) and, in addition, the student receives an electronic work card where is entered how much waste was used in a given category on a given day for eight days.

The task is to conduct at home. The teacher summarizes the task completed after eight days of the experiment during the second part of the workshop.
