Rraw Materials University Day, FCT Nova at Caparica Campus, Portugal, Oct 23, 2019.
The event was an open day, with the aim of disseminating the importance of raw materials in
the Portuguese and European economy. It was a meeting especially aimed at high school and
undergraduate students, in the context of the partnership between FCT NOVA and EIT Raw Materials.

"Visit to a local factory of zinc" at primary school of Franca Kranjca, Celje and Cinkarna Celje, Oct 18,2019 (Slovenia).
Geological Survey of Slovenia organized the event together with Cinkarna Celje for the ninth graders of primary school Frana Kranjca. The event contributed to a greater understanding of the topic of raw materials and helped to raise the awareness about their importance in modern society. Students need to understand why we need factories such as Cinkarna Celjei, what impact they have on their local environment and how their operation affects and improve our lives.

First international Fraunhofer Talent School at Fraunhofer IFAM in Bremen (Germany), Oct 7-9,2019.
In cooperation with the EIT Raw Materials project "RM@Schools", sixteen students from Estonia, Italy, Austria and Germany as well as eight teachers came to Bremen to learn and work on the topic of fiber-reinforced composites (FRP). The main focus here was on the question: Raw materials and sustainability: what can fiber reinforced plastics contribute?
The student teams took home with them a project task on the subject of FRP, the results of which they will present in another workshop at IFAM in March 2020. We are curious! Website |

On 20 September 2019 in Médiacité, researchers from the University of Liège held a local edition of the
event called “Objectif Terre” (“Objective: Earth”), where they performed a series of interactive activities,
presentations on what the researcher’s profession entails, experiments etc.

A geology day organized for pupils in the third grade of elementary school to introduce them to geology.

Festival della Scienza, Ferrara, Italy - May 18, 2019.
The fifth edition of the Festival of Science took place at the Department of Economics and Management in Polo Degli Aleardi in Ferrara. STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) were the protagonists of the day through interactive labs, games, seminars, intelligence challenges, creative experiments, and educational activities open to the public.
RM@Schools was present with two sessions of the recycling-themed goose game "Ricicloca". The game was preceded by a short lecture by Eleonora Polo on how to perform a correct separate collection.

RM@Schools project presentation at BBS Papenburg, Germany - May 16, 2019.
Two RM@Schools projects were presented at the BBS Papenburg in Germany on May 16. Ten 12-grade-students used the “TheoPrax” project management methodology to work on project topics given by RM@Schools Ambassadors. The students presented their project results in front of a large auditorium in the school’s assembly hall. Besides information about the RM@Schools project the students gave, the auditorium listened to suggestions on how the marketing of the project could be improved and how the awareness of teenagers regarding RM@Schools topics like sustainability and recycling could be boosted.

Bolin Centre Climate Festival, Stockholm University, Sweden, May 14-15, 2019.
The Climate Festival is an open event, organised by the Bolin Centre for Climate Research
every year in May. During the festival, the Geosciences' house located at Stockholm
University is full of visitors who learn more about climate and climate change. In 2019
more than 2000 visitors attended the event. The festival offers popular science lectures,
interactive climate games, climate walks and much more. Popular science lectures are
recorded and publically available after the event. The media usually attend and in 2019
Radio Sweden reported from the event.

MINFOS - International Days of Minerals, Fossils, and Environment - TRŽIČ, Slovenia, May 11-12, 2019.
RM@Schools workshop "Learn about geology" within the MINFOS event.
With learning toolkits participants learned how to recognize minerals and rocks and got to know the raw materials built into common everyday objects like smartphones. They could also see how groundwater flows and what pollution of the groundwater mean for nearby environment. These activities helped them raise the awareness about the importance of geology and raw materials, as well their impact on our lives.

Production electrolysis of zinc - a model experiment to understand the process chains in mining and recycling: from ore/ scrap to the target metal
The Technical University of Clausthal (TUC) is partner of the project RawMatTERS Ambassadors @ Schools, in which lessons are developed on the topic of raw materials. Here we present an experiment on zinc electrolysis; It exemplifies the value of alloys and the high energy, water and chemical use for the representation of the metals. In school workshops, process chains - from ore or electronic scrap to metal - are explained and experienced at model experimentation stations and supplemented in project days with factory tours (French Process, Norzinco, Goslar). Prao Week: Discover the Mining Industry!, May 9-10, 2019.
RM ambassador Théo Berthet was invited by the municipality of Hedemora to participate to pupils’
internships in the mining industry in Sweden. The internships included visits of the exploration and
IT departments of Garpenberg active mine, tests of the mining simulators, workshops on raw
materials and circular economy and exercices with BetterGeo, the geological version of Minecraft
created by the Geological Survey of Sweden.

EXPO FCT 2019, Caparica (Portugal) April 24, 2019.
The RM@Schools project was presented during the EXPO FCT 2019, FCT NOVA Open Day attracting every
year more than 5000 visitors. The event was held on April 24th, on the Campus of the Faculty of Sciences
and Technology in Caparica. EXPO FCT aims to facilitate the choice of University degrees by pre-university
youths, through demonstrations and activities in science and engineering. RM@Schools was disseminated
through the sponsored activity on sensors designed for the project and leaflet distribution to the students,
teachers and families that visited us.

Role of Geology in society - Črnomelj (Slovenia), April 17-19, 2019.
Pupils. 54 pupils and 3 teachers of the Elementary School Loka Črnomelj took part in a whole day of geological activities.

The Student Science Festival at the Estonian National Museum, Tartu, April 16-17, 2019.
The Student Science Festival is the largest science event for students in Estonia.
The event provides plenty of
inspiration for young people and teachers to encourage them to do exciting things in their classroom and
outside.
During the 2 Days the recipients of the national awards and special awards were also selected. In
addition, you could see performances by science theaters, attend science workshops, and see what fun
primary school children know about research.

The General Assembly of the United Nations has proclaimed 2019 as
the International Year of the Periodic Table of the Elements. The year 2019 marks in fact the
150th anniversary of the Mendeleev’s first periodic table publication. HorizonChem 2019

The Printemps des Sciences (“Spring of Science”) took place everywhere in the
Wallonia-Brussels Federation. In the Liège and Luxembourg regions, school activities
have been coordinated by Réjouisciences.
Uliège brought and performed an activity called “Atomic Memories” based on the origin of
items and what constitutes them comes from, while the Museum of Metallurgy and Industry of Liège
brought an activity called “Mobile Phone” where students dismantled a GSM phone to identify all the 50

"Competent teacher – heart of contemporary school", Laško (9 March 2019) & Bled (23 March 2019) - Slovenia.
RM@Schools Ambassador participated to the two events giving lectures on Geology and Raw Materials resources in formal education system in Slovenia: "I care about Geology".
The RM@Schools EU project and its methodology was also presented with the aim to inform teachers about possibilities

RM@Schools workshop for teachers - Berlin (6-7/03/2019).
25 people from different European countries met in Berlin to
discuss how to improve conditions for teaching about raw materials at secondary schools as well as the
teaching itself. Among them 19 teachers of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM)
from Italy, Austria, Germany and Belgium, and 5 from the staff of the RM@Schools
consortium representing Italy, Austria, Estonia and Germany.

Educational Workshop for 2.nd graders WHAT IS IT MADE OF? AND
HOW TO RECYCLE
Primary schools, of dr. Ivana Korošca Borovnica, Slovenia (07/03/2019).
66 pupils from
second grade of primary school with their teachers, got to know the
importance of raw materials in everyday life. The proposed activities helped raise the
awareness about the importance of raw materials, their production, uses and recycling,
as well as the properties of different minerals and rocks and

SciFest 2019 – Science Festival for Schools and Society (SE) - 5-7/03/2019, Uppsala (SE)
During the science festival of Uppsala, the Geological Survey of Sweden (SGU) organised a
workshop about raw material called: from rocks to metals with Minecraft.
Activities proposed to pupils: lecture about raw material and circular economy, exploration and mining through gamification
(bettergeo), ore samples and mining industry in Sweden and a 360 ° virtual visit of an active mine.

"La Boite á culture" - Mediacité Liège, 05/03/2019.
The mobile phone workshop was carried out at Médiacité, a big shopping mall in Liège.
With the help of a facilitator from the Museum of Metallurgy and the Industry of Liège, the students dismantled a GSM to identify the fifty elements of the Mendeleïev table which constitute it and discover the life cycle of materials, from extraction to recycling. The students also analyzed minerals under a microscope.

Open Doors Day at the Talling University of Technology (TalTech), 26/02/2019.
High school students from all over Estonia come to know about study possibilities and student life
at the Tallinn University of Technology. Students can attend different scientific and information
lectures, activities promoting curricula, workshops, visit open labs, meet alumni and listen their
success stories.
The RM Ambassadors of the Gustav Adolf Grammar School and TalTech conducted a TinCan

In collaboration with GiTe - Giornate sulla Termoelettricità (Days on thermoelectricity)
Within the activities of RM@Schools 3.0, three classes of students from Lissone (Italy) attended the conference.
They were involved with themes of strategic raw materials for the EU economy,
energy transition and new technologies. After this experience they became young RM Ambassadors
and committed themselves to spread about in their city the issues on circular economy with seminar events and games.
